Cross-country Skiing in Swedish Lapland - Tracks for thrill-seekers or families
For the local people of Lapland, skiing is a way of life. In the olden days skiing was the fastest way to travel in the wintertime, gliding across the snow.
Cross-country skiing is for all ages and abilities. You can go as fast or as slowly as you wish on prepared ski tracks. You can also ski alone or with a guide who will teach you the basics or help you improve your technique. Most people are gliding and stopping with ease very quickly on their trip to Lapland.
Cross-country skis are generally longer and lighter than alpine skis, with bindings that let you lift your heel. Most skiing takes place on prepared tracks in the relatively flat valley bottoms.
We have a whole range of cross-country skiing choices, from family-friendly trails to more demanding ones, and special off-track tours for thrill-seekers who are in good physical condition.
You'll be gliding through the silent forests or across the white slopes on your ski holiday, surrounded by glistening snow and the Arctic wildlife.
Track Cross-Country Skiing
All routes are clearly marked with the distance and skill level of the tracks so you won't get lost, and some tracks are even specially lit up at night so you can try cross-country skiing in the evening.
When you arrive, we'll give you a cross-country map showing the different tracks, distances, and levels of difficulty, plus starting points for the tracks or where to join along the tracks. You could also ask the friendly locals which track they recommend!
No experience is necessary – simply slip your skis on, follow the tracks, and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery of Lapland.
