Lapland

Lapland spans the northern areas of Sweden, Norway, Finland, and the Kola Peninsula in Russia. It has a distinct semi-national identity that transcends the borders between the four countries – however, there is no movement for complete autonomy.

The Arctic Circle runs through the area, and because Lapland is so far north, it has short days with few hours of daylight in the winter, and long days with many hours of daylight in the summer.

The indigenous people of Lapland are known as the Sámi people, famous for reindeer herding.
